Building Permits
Please call City Hall for all questions concerning building permit applications and inspections @ 563.785.4451.
Permit Requirements
Permits are required for all new construction, building alterations, accessory buildings, and concrete work.Permits are also required for signs, fences, swimming pools over 5000 gallons, electrical, plumbing and HVAC work. We ask that you allow at least 48 hours for your permit to be approved before starting your project. All construction projects will require applicable staking, footing, plumbing, framing, electrical, mechanical and final inspections. All general contractors, electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians must be licensed with the State of Iowa and these license numbers must be provided to the city when applying for a building permit. All building permits are valid for one (1) year from the date of issuance.
Variance Applications
If a permit is denied due to ordinance constraints, a variance may be applied for. A variance application would be filled out explaining the variance requested and a $150.00 fee paid at city hall. The zoning consultant would then set up a meeting with the Board of Adjustment committee to approve or deny the requested variance. If the variance is approved by the Board of Adjustment, the variance would be brought before council for approval.
